Do you feel itchiness in your scalp? You might probably have dandruff.

Dandruff is quite common among people. Dandruff is usually the cause of itchiness and redness in the scalp. Normal cases of dandruff can be treated using certain shampoos. Excessive flaking can be a symptom of seborrhea dermatitis or fungal infection also. Dandruff flakes grow in size with the accumulation of dirt.

Keep in mind that dandruff does not cause hair loss.

The most common symptom of dandruff is excessive flaking of the scalp. Itching is also experienced.

Flaking cause:-

Skin cells in an average person are renewed every 28 to 29 days. With the renewing of these cells, the older cells die and fall off the scalp. It is not visible in normal cases. But excessive flaking makes the dusty particles called dandruff visible.

The exactly correct dandruff cause has not yet been discovered. Still, there are some conditions that may cause dandruff.

Excessive shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp is a dandruff cause. Dying and shedding of dead cells is quite common actually. But large amount of shedding of dead skin cells can lead to irritation and redness.

Dry skin is a dandruff cause. It causes flaking and itchiness.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a dandruff cause. Symptoms are greasy and red skin.

Psoriasis is another dandruff cause. Thick silvery scales are formed during Psoriasis.

Contact dermatitis another dandruff cause. Cause of contact dermatitis- Certain Hair care products. Itchiness and redness in the scalp is experienced during contact dermatitis.

Even though the exact dandruff cause has not been discovered, there have been several theories which explain dandruff cause.

Stress is one dandruff cause theory.

Improper diet or hair care products also cause dandruff.
